God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, Courage to change the things I can,
And wisdom to know the difference. - The Serenity Prayer is the common name for an originally

I never really liked being categorized with others. I'd rather be labeled as me. Nothing more, nothing less. (by unknown) Growing-up, I remember hearing things like, oh, you're always sick or of course you got an "A" because you're smart and many more. These statements/labels bother me to this day. I didn't want to be known as the sick one, the smart one, the happy-go-lucky girl and such. Truth is, I spent many days alone at home sick and not having fun. I studied extremely hard to get those good grades because it didn't come easy to me. I tried so hard to look happy and disguise the sadness that lurked within. So, I tried to fake it until I felt it. Isn't it time to stop being defined by the labels we’ve been given? I feel that if we not only stop defining ourselves by labels, then it will provide a profound effect on the judgment we have on others. Believe this is called Breaking the Chain.

A little while back, I received a little yellow post-it with the inscription, "Life is a Gift." Who gave me this post-it? My spiritual adviser and priest at a poignant time in my life. It took me a while to wrap my mind around this thought and see the big picture. When in fact, that the greatest gift God gave to each of us was Himself and the greatest gift we can give God is ourselves! How miraculous can one gift be? The reason God gave us life is so that we would have something precious to give back to Him. The reason God gave us more than we need, is so that we would have to give to those who do not have. Our God is full of compassion and He loves to give. God is thinking about each one of us continuously all day and night for He doesn't sleep. He is constantly giving to us, every breath we take is a gift from God. In order to take this to the next step, "What are you going to do with your gift?" Are you going to make today count or are you to watch it just slip away? Each day is a new start and a new beginning - So, it's time to begin.
Today if you’re feeling like the odds are stacked against you, ask yourself, "Which would you prefer to assume?":
- That things will go wrong and then find evidence to confirm you’re right? - To believe that good things will happen and then make every effort to create them? But Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” |
