Getting to St. Thomas More Catholic Parish is very easy and it is such a wonderful and relaxing ride. Please do remember that I don't drive and I'm speaking as the passenger; although my driver seemed to enjoy the ride too. I've found a place just about 45 minutes north east of my home, where I can go to church followed by a lovely picnic at Silver Lake. Needing a change and want to combine spirituality, food and fresh pine air? Well, have I got the place for you! Plan on attending mass at St. Thomas More Catholic Parish ∙ 3015 E. Creek Rd ∙ Cottonwood Heights, Utah 84093-6575 ∙ Phone: (801) 942-5285 ∙ Website: www.stmutah.org Then bring your packed picnic lunch up to one of the many picnic areas located in Big Cottonwood Canyon on SR-190. Don't forget to bring a jacket because the weather does change.

My pilgrimage stop brought me southeast; just about 45 minutes south of Orem. This saint's feast day is May 15th and is the patron saint of Madrid as well as farmers. Do you know where I went? San Isidro Mission ∙ 12537 W Hwy 6 ∙ Elberta UT 84626 ∙ Website: http://www.dioslc.org/parish?id=22021. Our own icatholic.org has a great article featuring the expansion dedication for the mission: http://www.icatholic.org/article/bishop-dedicates-expanded-san-isidro-mission--6972561 Getting to Elberta is very relaxing, especially if you like the country. You won't find big buildings or city life for quite a few miles. There is a strong sense of spiritual peace. As you arrive you'll notice ample parking. Once through the two sets of double doors, you arrive on the left of church towards the middle. Upon entering, if you go straight you will run into the pews. If turn right instead and keep (Please click the "Read More" to continue. Thank you.) We love Scottish Festivals and old churches and only once a year could today’s events come together. The day started with the Scottish Festival in Payson. http://www.paysonscottishfestival.org/ The music, dancers, clans and games made everyone want to be Scottish for the day. There's only one way we wanted to end a day like that, attending a mass at an older church. Maybe it’s not as old as the churches in Scotland, but the pews feel like it, none the less. We attended the 5pm mass at San Andreas Catholic Church ∙ 315 E 100 N ∙ Payson, UT 84651 ∙ Phone: (801) 465-4782 ∙ Website: http://www.parishesonline.com/scripts/hostedsites/Org.asp?ID=2090. I wanted to visit the church before Father Joseph S. Rooney, S.J., retires. Utah's Intermountain Catholic website has a wonderful article about Fr. Rooney: http://www.icatholic.org/article/red-rock-country-keeps-priest-in-his-golden-years-7711135 San Andreas Catholic Church is only 30 minutes away from my home. I've been to the social hall once, but never into the church. You will find ample parking in the back. From the parking lot there is easy (Please click the "Read More" to continue. Thank you.) Today's pilgrimage stop is not the one I had planned, but the one God wanted me to visit. It was unforeseen that visiting churches would be an education on Utah city locations and Catholic Saints. Today's saint has many names. She is Saint Thérèse of Lisieux, who was born Marie-Françoise-Thérèse Martin. A French Carmelite nun, also known as "Saint Therese of the Little Child Jesus and the Holy Face" and "The Little Flower of Jesus". As you may have guessed, I visited St. Therese of the Little Child Jesus Catholic Church • 624 West Lennox Street • Midvale, UT 84047 • Phone: (801) 255-3721 • Website: http://home.catholicweb.com/Stherese/index.cfm . The church is easy to locate and about 30 minutes from the Provo/Orem area. It's located in near the 9000S exit from I-15. Arriving early allowed me time to take photos and (Please click the "Read More" to continue. Thank you.) Today's 'Pilgrimage Train' headed northeast to Riverton. Honestly, before this pilgrimage visit, I had never heard of Riverton and now I know exactly where it is. I attended the 8:30am Mass today at St. Andrew Catholic Church • 11835 South 3600 West • Riverton, UT 84065 • Phone: 801-984-7500 • http://www.standrewut.com . Their website is very user friendly and helpful to visitors and parishioners. St. Andrew Parish is rather young and wasn't established until 2006 and the school in 2008. Ironically, 2006 is also the same year that the Scottish Parliament designated St. Andrew's Day, November 30th, as an official bank holiday. Saint Andrew Parish isn't far from Utah Valley, just 15 minutes northwest from the point of the mountain. I went the long way, but it was a nice ride with no traffic. The church is located in a very nice rural |
