Today’s patron saint was a skilled carpenter or artisan. According to Book of Genesis, Joseph was the 11th of Jacob's 12 sons and Rachel's firstborn. Joseph was sold into slavery by his jealous brothers, and rose to become the second most powerful man in Egypt next to Pharaoh. He was the foster father to the Son of God. Joseph died at the age of a hundred and ten. He was embalmed and laid to rest in a coffin in Egypt (Genesis 50:26). The Patron Saint of the Universal Church, unborn children, fathers, workers, travelers, immigrants, and a happy death. St. Joseph’s Feast Day is March 19th.

He was born during the third century at Canaan, a region encompassing modern-day Israel. Did you know that he was a well-built, strong man and so tall that he was sometimes referred to as a giant? One day he met a holy hermit who guided travelers to the safe points where they could cross a dangerous river. Then took the place of the hermit but instead of just guiding travelers, he would often carry them across the river. He paid close attention to helping any small children. Saint Christopher converted to Christianity through the teachings of the holy hermit. He was baptized as “Christoffero” which eventually led to the name Christopher. In AD250 the Roman Emperor Decius issued an edict for the suppression of Christianity. Christopher was one of many arrested and executed during these persecutions. He is represented in Christian Art, usually shown with his emblems, the Christ Child, a tree in bloom and a torrent. Saint Christopher is loved and honored in the churches both of the East and the West. In addition to being the patron and protector of all travelers, he is also invoked against storms and sudden death. July 25th is his feast day. To honor Saint Christopher, there is a very welcoming church in Kane County Utah. Yet, these rays were not painful to the sight; but seemed rather directed to “Born in the Azores Islands, Portugal and raised in California, Father Joseph Hyacinth Valine entered the Dominican Order in 1922 and was a member of the first graduating class of St. Thomas College in 1927. After ministering 12 years to Portuguese immigrants in California and Oregon, he was later called to Utah in 1941 by Bishop Duane Hunt. Assigned first to Logan and then to Richfield, Fr. Valine came to Milford in 1947, and remained there actively serving as pastor for 45 years until dying at the age of 95. There is a Newman Center across the street from the campus and serves the needs of the students. They provide free dinners after the masses, praise and worship events, movie night, theme parties, retreats and bible study. This center, named the Saint Jerome Newman Center, is in a church that formerly housed St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. Several years ago, St. Thomas Aquinas Church moved to a larger building in Hyde Park in order to accommodate the growing amount of parishioners. The website is very organized and has an abundance of information available. Set on a small hill, the church was very easy to locate and is just a few minutes from Interstate 80. There is ample parking and handicap access to the church is available if needed. To the right of the parking area is a lovely statue of Our Lady of Lourdes that has a Known as Saint Mary or the Blessed Virgin Mary, identified in the Bible as the mother of Jesus, the founder of the Christian religion. She was born in Nazareth, Israel to Joachim and Saint Anne. Virgin Mother was, after her Son, glorified by heavenly grace above all angels and men. God has devoted to Mary the treasury of all good things, in order that everyone may know that through her are obtained every hope, every grace, and all salvation. For this is His will, that we obtain everything through Mary. This evening’s Pilgrim Train stopped in in a city that encompasses 10.2 square miles. West Haven is located in Weber County and was incorporated 1991, combining the unincorporated Italian Dominican theologian Saint Thomas Aquinas was one of the most influential medieval thinkers of Scholasticism and the father of the Thomistic School of Theology. The most beautiful hymns that the Liturgy of the Church sings to celebrate the mystery of the Real Presence of the Body and Blood of the Lord in the Eucharist are attributed to his faith and his theological wisdom. One of his former pupils professed that a vast multitude of students took Thomas’ courses, so many that the halls could barely accommodate them; and this student added that “listening to him brought him deep happiness”. He was canonized in 1323 and declared Doctor of the Church by Pope Pius V. St. Thomas Aquinas is known for being a priest and doctor of the Church, patron of all universities and of students.
